More customizing
After checking Eiriks post on Random Images, I know I also needed this. Copycat deLuxe, right?
Well, gmhowell published this neat tool, and I appreciate it a lot. The default WP-theme is great (after a few adjustments), and with this plugin, I get the look and feel that I want.
Great plugin!
I’ve also added a “dropdown-categories”-plugin, found on Typedby.com.
It’s quite good, although the docs lack more examples so I can use it on more of my menu. Pages, archives and links would be handy. Hopefully, the author will provide examples
WordPress / Word Perfect
Suddenly it hit me..
Didn’t Word Perfect had 1.5, or was it 5.1 ?
I’ll do a google on it, “as we speak”…
Hm.. seems to be WordPerfect 5.1
So here I’m typing on WP 1.5 about WP 5.1 ![]()
Funny, very funny
Customize WordPress
I thought it’s time to write a little about this great WordPress 1.5, and some neat plugins and customizing of the blog.Get started.
First of all, you need WordPress. If you are blogging, WordPress is your tool. And if you happen to be on some webhost that doesn’t support WordPress, or your webhost demand lot’s of cash to give you a MySQL-db, switch to Dreamhost.
Ok, so you have WordPress up and running. First of all, you need a good theme. The default Kubrick is neat, but you’d probably want the sidebar on all pages. No need to remove navigation, right? Well, you find the links to a solution right here. Just download the files, and upload them, and you’re done. Futher adjustments to design can be done with cross-reference to WordPress Codex.
How about these plugins?
WP-iTunes
If you like to share what music you like, WP-iTunes works well. Not perfect, as the software on my pc don’t update on all my iTunes-songs, but that might be some local problem with my pc. You see his plugin on my sidebar, and also on my “Sing-a-long”-page.
PHP-code
To get the above plugin on some pages, you probably need to execute some PHP-code. This plugin, PHPexec, solves this. Just download the file, upload it, and embedd PHP-code as described in the file.
Countdown
I’m bad in remembering dates, and I’m not proud of it. But I found a neat plugin that helps you with counting down to certain important dates. It’s called “Countdown”, and you find it (together with other nice plugins) on this site.
You’ll also find BAStats on the same page, a stats-plugin, revealing the basic facts on your blog.
Adsense
If you do Google-ads, Adsense is good to embedd your google-ads in posts.
Embedding RSS
RSS-feeds are “must have” these days, and in my search of a del.icio.us-plugin, I found a tool to embedd any RSS on your pages. I haven’t tried it on other content than del.icio.us, but it works fine. To see it, check out my “my del.icio.us”-page. You find the script and instructions on rawlinson – us
Thanks to a Eirik, I’ve also installed the brilliant plugin to prevent comment-spam: Bot Check. I used some other tool on my previous WP-blog, but this one is very easy to setup, and works great. A “Must have”. Thanks to Eirik for sharing, and to Brian for making
Well, this is a start. I’ll probably add more plugins later, and will try to post about them too.
del.icio.us – Que?
The last weeks, I’ve seen this strange word several times. However I’ve had no clue on the meaning of it. But a friend at work, Eirik explained it to me.
So here goes:
del.icio.us is social bookmarks. All it’s members post their bookmarks and preferred sites, together with a tag, and maybe the optional extra explanation. So you can access a list of bookmarks in two ways. Either by it’s tag, like: http://del.icio.us/tag/blog, or you can choose the bookmarks of a user (http://del.icio.us/rss/osanne).
If a new bookmark is added to the tag, or the user adds a bookmark, you’ll see it in the RSS-feed.
Very neat stuff!
Geek up your iPod
It’s probably not something new, but today I discovered that it’s possible to put some Linux-OS on your iPod.
If this means more software on the iPod, more possibilities and features, I’m all for it.
I definatly love my iPod, uses it every day, and more features would make it even better.
So, go and check out this site for more info: iPodLinux.org
