After a few tests I thought I’d write a summary on my new geotagging-solution.

First of all, I’ve thought about buying Sony’s GPS-CS1KA. This is a neat tool that stores your location every 15th second, making it possible for you to sync it with your photos that day. It’s quite small, with no display, as it’s only meant for logging.
So when you need it, just turn it on, and after some seconds it will start logging. I have to mention that it prefers being used outside, with less walls, roofs and buildings to block the GPS.

Anyway, do your trip, shoot some photos, and get back home and start having fun.
The GPS comes with “GPS Image Tracker” from Sony, but it doesn’t support raw-files, and I only shoot raw on my camera.
However BreezeSys.com have the brilliant Downloader Pro. At a cost of 30 USD it’s all you need. Connect the photocard, and the GPS to your PC, and Downloader Pro will automatically sync the photos with the GPS-log. That’s my main reason for using Downloader Pro, but it also has some nice features, such as flexible renaming, allowing me to download the files and store it in my preferred way in folders.

After syncing the files ang GPS, I open Lightroom, and the photos are already tagged. And by clicking on the icon after the location, I’m redirected to Googlemap and that location.
Geotagging in Lightroom

After exporting the photo from Lightroom, I upload it to my Flickr-account.
The photo is exported with all EXIF-data, so the geotagging is included. When someone look at my photo, they will find a link to a map in the “Additional information”, letting them se the exact location of the photo.
Before you upload the file you need to check a couple of things:
- Make sure that Exif is enabled and visible
- Enable automatically import GPS-information as Geo-data

Then upload your photos and share where you took them.

The actual photo can be seen here. It’s not the most interesting photo, but it’s main purpose was this post and checking the workflow.
